This resignation letter is for people who joined a volunteer organization or its board thinking it's mission was one thing and it turned out to be something not in keeping with their personal values.
Dear Mr./Ms. Bossname,
With regret, I must resign from the committee and will no longer be volunteering for the organization at all.
When I first volunteered to help the unhoused, I was under the impression that we were all on the same page regarding homelessness in our town.
Sadly, our values diverge. The organization has morphed into one that cares more about name-calling and class-shaming than providing safe spaces for the unhoused and ensuring access to mental health services. The final straw was the resistance to Narcan training that led to the forfeiting of a million dollar grant that would have set up a low-barrier shelter downtown.
I will be seeking an organization that seeks to be compassionate toward the unhoused, not one whose only goal is to push them out of the community.
