Sometimes, a personality conflict is too much to overcome in an unpaid position. This letter template explains that a volunteer is resigning due to not getting along with another member of the organization.
Dear President,
After much soul-searching, I need to let you know that I’ll be resigning from the XYZ Nonprofit board, effective immediately.
My ongoing conflict with the group member that I’ve mentioned to you on several occasions has not abated. In fact, it’s escalated. An incident last week was the last straw. It’s come to the point that I can’t justify the amount of time and emotional energy I’m expending in an unpaid, volunteer role due to the rudeness and incompetence of one member.
I can drop off the committee binder with you at your convenience or pass it directly to my replacement.
I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. I had truly intended to serve in my role for the rest of the year.
Sincerely,
Your Name
