Sometimes, money is the sole reason for tendering a resignation. This letter provides an opportunity for the current employer to match an offer made a competitor.
I regret that, due to our impasse regarding compensation, I must resign effective two weeks from today.
As you know, I’ve been offered a position at our top competitor. While it is a lateral move in terms of title and responsibility, the pay is 22% higher than what I’m earning here. Moreover, I have not received a raise nor a bonus in more than two years.
Were it not for this one sticking point, I would be happy to stay on at ABC Company. I am proud of the work we have done here, and I was really looking forward to the upcoming Widget Project. I enjoy my team, and we work well together.
If you happen to reconsider, I am willing to stay on if you are able to match the aforementioned offer and agree upon annual raises of no less than 5% going forward.
